Sammy Hanson - Director of Instruction
Sammy Hanson started out in the golf business in 1994, at nearby World Houston Golf Course. In 1997 he worked for Golfsmith Golf Center as a Lead Salesman, where he gained skills in club making and club fitting technology. In 1999 he became a Golf Professional at Northgate Country Club. Here, word quickly got out of Sammy's both teaching and playing ability. In 2000 he became a Golf Professional at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood. During the 3-years at Deerwood Golf Club, he became a full-time Teaching Professional. In 2004 he helped open Golf Etc. in Clear Lake, which later became Performance Golf Academy. Also in 2004, he became a Club Fitting Specialist for Mizuno Golf Company.
He conducted club fitting seminars as well as demo/fitting days all over the South Texas Region... which he continues to do to date. Four years later, he was given the opportunity to pursue playing professional golf. He played tournaments on the Tight Lies Tour, Professional Players Tour, and National Golf Tour for one year. In August of 2008, he became the Director of Instruction at Cypresswood Golf Club. During his time at Cypresswood GC, Sammy built up a respectable client base. He also began writing, and continues to write monthly articles for AVID Golfer magazine (Quick Tips by Sammy Hanson) and Golfer’s Guide (Instructional Commentary).
In August 2011, Sammy became our Director of Instruction at Oakhurst Golf Club. Sammy is married to Victoria and has four children: Cheyenne, Sierra, Sammy and Jaedon. He brings to us a combined total of 17 years of experience and over 10,000 lessons taught. His clientele ranges from beginner golfers, to collegiate and professional golfers. He welcomes men, women, seniors, and junior golfers of all levels, and looks forward to working with you to improve your game.

Mike Grogan - Teaching Professional
Mike Grogan grew up playing in junior tournaments around his home town of Edna, Teas. He experienced early success, and, grew to love the game and competition. His first teacher was the legendary Jackson Bradley at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, where his uncle was a member. He continued to develop while playing against high school, and, collegiate competition.
Mike began teaching as a volunteer, in an inner-city program for underprivileged kids. Mike had excelled as an amateur, and, was able to communicate these fundamental skills to his students. In 1999 PGA professionals Art Hode, and, James Connally convinced Mike to turn professional, and, utilize his playing experience, to teach others.
Mike’s professional career began at April Sound Country Club. He continued to develop his teaching skills to give each student the best quality instruction possible. When, the chance to work at Oakhurst Golf Club, under David Preisler, and, Jim Phenicie came about, Mike seized the opportunity. He is a player development specialist, and, teaches those classes at Oakhurst Golf Club, along with private and group lessons!
